There has been a lot of talk about tick bites and Lyme disease recently.
I’ve even seen things going around about farmers finding boxes of ticks… is that true? I have no idea.
But what I do know is that the topic of tick bites and Lyme disease is coming up a lot right no, so let’s explore some common homeopathic remedies you can consider for tick bites.
A Quick Note on Transmission
In many cases, a tick needs to be attached for around 36 hours or more for transmission to occur.
Tick Removal
Use fine-tipped tweezers and grasp the tick as close to the skin as possible, then pull upward steadily without twisting. After removing it, clean the area and keep an eye on the site over the next few days. You can also consider using the tick protocol (listed in the article below).
Bite Prevention
If you're going to be spending any time outdoors, it's wise to use some type of prevention like a natural, herbal bug spray. An herbalist friend of mine makes an excellent herbal bug spray that helps prevent tick bites. You can find the bug spray by clicking here.
Conventional Treatment
The standard approach for Lyme is antibiotics, which can be helpful early on, but, like everything, there are risks to consider:
Antibiotics have side effects that often include nausea, diarrhea, vomiting, skin rash, and damaging the gut
Antibiotics can raise a persons overall susceptibility (and lower the vitality) in the long run
This isn’t about me giving you advice on whether or not to use antibiotics – but rather telling you what other choices are available and the risks that come with them, which is often the reason people turn to homeopathy in the first place.
The Early (Acute) Stage
The first stage illness is where things tend to be more clear and is able to be addressed at home with homeopathy because it is still during its acute stage.
This stage usually shows up 3–30 days after a bite and can include:
a rash (often described as a “bullseye”)
flu-like symptoms
fever
fatigue
headaches
muscle aches or stiffness
The rash can change over time — sometimes growing larger, sometimes fading as it expands. At this stage, it’s helpful to look at homeopathic remedies that you would commonly use for the flu and considering the overall picture of symptoms and how they’re presenting.
Using Homeopathic Remedies Early On
There are two general ways homeopathy is often considered in early situations like this:
1. After a tick bite (before symptoms)
Some people consider using homeopathic remedies prophylactically, before symptoms develop, which I rarely recommend, but this is one of the few times I would consider it, however you need to consider a persons vitality. If you don’t know the vitality of a person and how they respond to homeopathic remedies,
Ledum 30C once a day for 5 days is the typical protocol. If you know how a person responds to homeopathic remedies and has a strong vitality, you can consider giving Ledum 200C twice a day for 3 days. Be sure to know what the signs of a proving are so that if this happens, you can stop giving the remedy immediately.
2. Once symptoms are present
Once symptoms begin, the focus needs to be on individual, characteristic symptoms.
Instead of treating “Lyme,” you’re looking at:
how the symptoms feel
what makes them better or worse
the overall state of the person
In early stages, you are working with an acute illness — focusing on things like fever, fatigue, body aches, and other symptoms.
Common Remedies Often Considered
There are several remedies that may be considered in early Lyme cases, depending on how symptoms are presenting.
Here are a few that are often thought of:
Ledum
Often considered after bites and stings, including tick bites.
Typically chilly, but feels better with cold applications and worse from heat or warmth (especially in bed).
Pain and stiffness are often relieved by cold.
If a rash is present, it may have a darker or purplish hue to it.
Rhus tox
Restless with stiffness and joint pain.
Symptoms are worse at rest and first movement, and better with continued motion, warmth, and stretching.
Often worse in cold, damp weather.
May have a dry mouth with thirst.
Gelsemium
Fatigue, heaviness, and weakness - especially in the limbs.
Flu-like symptoms with chills, trembling, and a general “heavy” feeling.
Often thirstless.
Symptoms may be worse in damp weather or mid-morning.
Arsenicum album
Restlessness with weakness and anxiety.
Chilly but may have burning pains that feel better with warmth.
Often worse at night (around midnight).
Tends to feel better with warmth and warm applications.
Hepar sulph
Very chilly and sensitive, especially to cold, drafts, pain, and external stimulation like lights or noise.
May be very sensitive to being uncovered.
Often thought of when there are swollen or infected glands/tonsils with splinter-like pains, especially with marked sensitivity.
When It Becomes More Complex
Not everyone experiences that early stage clearly.
Sometimes symptoms show up later, are more scattered, or don’t follow a clear pattern.
When that happens, it can be harder to manage on your own, so don’t be afraid to reach out for help. Homeopathy Help Now has excellent student practitioners that are ready to help. I currently take cases through HHN, and if I am available and you request me, I will take your case if you wish. You can request a consultation by clicking here.
What to Do After Taking a Remedy
After taking a remedy, the next step is understanding the response so that you know if you should keep taking the current remedy, wait, or try something else. Which of these you decide to do is going to depend on how your body is responding, and instead of guessing it helps to know what to look for.

Final Thought
There are many remedies that can be considered in the acute stage of Lyme.
But more often than not, you’ll find yourself working with remedies that match a flu-like picture… things like fever, fatigue, body aches, etc.
The goal isn’t to find “the Lyme remedy.”
It’s to understand how the symptoms are showing up and choose a remedy that matches that picture. Remember, let the symptoms guide you.
